England manager Roy Hodgson has selected his 22-man army for the Wednesday’s friendly against Cesare Prandelli’s Italy in Berne where as expected he gave many new faces an opportunity to shine.
The manager wanted to select a squad for experimentation by giving chances to new faces as he prepares to build a good team for the next world cup.
Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand gets his first time senior call ups while Spurs duo Steven Caulker and Jake Livermore have also been included.
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick returns to the national team after two years while promising midfielder Tom Cleverley is included too.
