Atletico Madrid are set to ask Chelsea to let their 19-year-old goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stay on a loan for another season.
The former Genk shot-saver signed a lucrative the contract with the Blues in July, but was immediately sent off on a loan to Spanish capital. In an overall disappointing season for Atletico, Courtois was one of the few bright spots and gained recognition, securing first squad place over Sergio Asenjo.
However, the 19-year-old is supposed to return to Stamford Bridge this summer when his loan terminates, most likely to sit on the substitute bench given Petr Cech’s secure role in the first squad. The Czech international’s contract with the Blues expires in 2013 but he is rumoured to be engaged in contract extension talks already.
